Direct TV HD Receiver: An Essential Component of High Definition Entertainment
Direct TV is currently the United States' leading digital satellite
movie and entertainment service provider. It offers its direct
broadcast satellite (DBS) system to the majority of American
households using state-of-the-art equipment.
The company was
established by Hughes Electronics (a subsidiary of General Motors)
in 1994. During its launching period, Direct TV became the world’s
first high-powered DBS service provider. Throughout its operation,
the company acquired many related businesses. These include USSB,
PrimeStar, and EchoStar. At present, it delivers approximately 250
movie and television channels to subscribers that have the Direct TV
HD Receiver, Direct TV Satellite Dish, and the Direct TV Remote
Control. The Direct TV HD Receiver can collect and put
together off-air digital local channels into the Advanced Program
Guide when it is connected to the subscribers’ off-air antenna. With
this, a Direct TV HD-compatible television can access both Direct TV
and the local channels’ usual programming. These include HDNet,
Disney Channel, Universal HD, ESPN HD, HD Special Event (NFL Game of
the Week), CNN, and Discovery HD Theater. If a client wants more
quality channels, he can install another set of Direct TV HD
Receiver for only $4.99/month per receiver with a free standard
professional installation. However, due to company restrictions, a
subscriber can only put in up to three (3) additional receivers.
