Technological Advancements in HD Television

Defined Tag:

HD Television or HDTV is the latest type of modern television. It is a high-resolution digital television (DTV). Its superior audio quality is powered by Dolby Digital surround sound AC-3 system. It was first conceptualized in the 1970s in Japan. Its foremost developers were Sony and NHK who later developed the NHK Hi-vision system, the father of the modern HD Television. This method creates pictures just like a 35 mm film. As a result, TV programs’ recording, playing, and editing are much more convenient and time-efficient.

At present, HD Television offers greater picture and audio quality than ordinary TV. Some of HDTV’s upgraded features include its digital advantage, remarkable detail, and progressive scanning. Ordinary and traditional TV sets have only 4:3 aspect ratios while HDTV has 16:9; that is 33% broader. This makes the image viewing much wider and more comprehensive like a theater system. Aside from this, HDTV’s screen resolution has 1920 (horizontal) x 1080 (vertical) pixels compared to an ordinary TV’s 210,000 pixels per image. This makes the image enhancement 10 times sharper and more detailed. Multicasting (the sending of more than one signal over a similar channel) is also possible when using HD Television.

HD Television uses 3 different kinds of broadcast formats. These are the 720p (which has 1280 x 720 pixels progressive), the 1080i (which has 1920 x 1080 pixels interlaced), and the 1080p (which has 1920 x 1080 pixels progressive). These formats are associated with the HDTV’s scanning system.

HD Television’s audio superiority offers 5.1 channels of CD-quality surround sound from different directions and frequency levels. These include the left, right, center, left rear, right rear, and low frequency effects. The so-called “ghost images” of the standard NTSC television is totally diminished in the HDTV system. Blurry and snowy receptions are also reduced when using HDTV.
